*It is always recommended people rule out medical causes before attributing physical sensations to psychological causes (counseling anxiety NH).
Here are some examples of common anxiety disorders:

  • Panic disorder: feelings of fear that strike suddenly and sometimes repeatedly often with no warning. Other symptoms include sweating, palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeats), and a feeling of choking or being unable to "catch your breath" which may make the person feel like he or she is having a heart attack or "going crazy."
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD): thoughts that are unreasonable and lead to an action (compulsion).
  • Social anxiety disorder: social phobia, social anxiety disorder which consists of overwhelming fear and self-consciousness about some social situations. The worry often is fear of being judged by others, or behaving in a manner that may cause embarrassment or thoughts of being ridiculed.
  • Specific phobias: an intense fear of an object or situation, such as dogs, heights, bugs, animals, being alone at night, driving on highways, being a passenger, leaving one's home, and fear of flying. The level of fear is often not appropriate to the situation and might cause avoidance of common everyday situations.
  • Generalized anxiety disorder: This involves excessive unrealistic fear and tension, even when there is little or nothing to cause the anxiety.
